Welcome to the new HR Headlines, a monthly newsletter for the Carolina community from the University Office of Human Resources (OHR). This electronic newsletter replaces the weekly HR Information email for employees. Understanding the benefits and services offered by the University is essential to your employment experience at Carolina, and we hope this publication will be informative and useful to you. This newsletter also marks another beginning. Starting this month, the Office of Human Resources is changing the way that HR services are delivered across campus. The departmental HR Facilitators have been an important part of HR operations at Carolina for more than 10 years. However, the upcoming launch of the ConnectCarolina HR/Payroll module next January, as well as our focus on ensuring that the entire campus community receives outstanding HR service, provided an opportunity to revisit how HR services are delivered. For the past several months, OHR has been working with the lead HR professionals in each school and division to reimagine HR operations in a way that will enhance the ability of HR representatives to effectively deliver HR services in partnership with University OHR.
To this end, we are consolidating HR services within the schools and major University divisions. This will allow us to maintain a decentralized approach to HR service delivery — but one that is less broadly distributed within departments than previously existed. We believe this model will provide a more responsive, effective and consistent approach to providing services at the school/division level, as well as ensure more consistent compliance with applicable laws, regulations and policies across the University.
Each school and division developed its own implementation strategy for this change. While most organizations will be making the transition in July, some larger schools and divisions will stage the changes over the next few months.
This newsletter has been forwarded to you by your school or division’s HR office, which, in most units, will be the focal point for HR operations. Some larger departments and centers will still have HR personnel embedded in them.
