Sept. 11 named First Responders DayAugust 17, 2017 |
The 2017 Appropriations Act added a new legal holiday, First Responders Day, on Sept. 11. This is in addition to other legal state public holidays such as Columbus Day, Washington’s Birthday, and Yom Kippur. This is a non-paid holiday and state agencies and universities will not be closed. The University’s holiday schedule will not be updated as this public holiday is not one of the 12 paid holidays per year.
If employees are interested in taking this day off, they must follow department guidelines for requesting time off, and may use compensatory, bonus or vacation time to cover the absence.
