A new permanent employee may be hired at the minimum of the salary range for the classification involved. When warranted by an operational need or an equal pay justification, an employee may be hired above the minimum of the salary range or above an established special minimum rate for the classification involved in accordance with commensurate qualifications.
The hiring department may recommend a salary for the potential employee. After review and determination of the salary, the HR Generalist (or authorized hiring department) extends the official job offer. With necessary approvals from Human Resources Services, an additional five percent may be granted for each additional year of relevant education and experience above the minimum recruitment standards.
Employees lacking the minimum recruitment requirements are hired at a salary below the hiring rate (or special entry rate) of the salary range under a State-approved trainee salary progression.
Each appointment is made in conformance with the equal pay principle and requires advance review and approval by the Workforce Planning & Recruitment Department, Office of Human Resources. All salary administration actions are subject to the availability of funds.
The annual salary rate of a permanent part time employee is set on a pro rata basis. The annual salary is computed as a percentage of the annual salary the employee would receive if permanent full time.
