Applying for an SPA Position

CONTENTS

Application Forms

An "Application for Staff Employment" is used to evaluate an applicant's experience, education, skills, and abilities and refer qualified persons to University departments with job openings under active recruitment. The applicant needs to complete an Application for each position to be considered.

An Application is in active status from the date it is received by the Office of Human Resources until the position specified on the application is filled or canceled. An active Application indicates the applicant is available for pre-employment selection activities (e.g., testing and interviews) and for employment.

In addition to the Application for Staff Employment, several supplemental skills forms have been designed for specific occupational groups within the University in order to obtain information about specific knowledge, skills, and abilities. If the position sought requires a supplemental skills information, applicants should download the applicable form(s) from the Human Resources website, or the Office of Human Resources will provide the applicant with the form(s).

Transfer Opportunities

To promote career advancement and to fill job openings with the best skills available, permanent SPA (full- or part-time) employees are eligible to seek to transfer to another department or to another position within their current department. There is no requirement for the employee to work in a position for a specified minimum period before applying for a position change. An employee seeking a transfer is encouraged, but not required, to notify his/her supervisor.

Time (including travel time) spent in an interview for a UNC-Chapel Hill position is considered work time if scheduled in advance and with the approval of the employee's supervisor. Alternatively, employees may request vacation leave or use other available paid time off in accordance with department procedures to go to job interviews.

Employees are also encouraged to seek assistance through Training and Development Department progams in career development.

Application Falsification

False or misleading information or documentation or an omission on the University's employment application or supplemental application forms may result in rejection of employment or transfer consideration, or termination, if already employed.
