University Manager Training Grant
Statement of Purpose
In recognition of the significant contributions that many managers make to their departments, an anonymous gift was received in 1994 that allowed the University to establish a monetary award to recognize outstanding University managers. The award is $250 per year to be continued in subsequent years in the like amount or until the fund is depleted.
Timeline
The award is announced in early May with a nomination period throughout May; the award is presented in July.
Eligibility
- The University Manager Training Grant is open to both SPA and EPA managers who have had at least one year of continuous University service.
- The Grant is awarded annually and is valued at $250.00.
- The training program requested must benefit the department, work unit, or University.
- The grant application must be accompanied by a Letter of Recommendation from the employee's immediate supervisor/manager.
Application/Selection Process
Each applicant must complete a University Manager Training Grant Application. Applications are reviewed by the University Manager Training Grant selection committee following the guidelines listed below:
- The selection committee chair or co-chair reviews the application packet, which must include a letter of recommendation from their immediate supervisor and/or manager.
- The University Manager Training Grant supports an activity that cannot be paid from other educational funding sources and will benefit the employee's department or the University.
- Any program paid for by this award may be taken on either the award winner's own time or during work time, subject to advance approval by the award winner's immediate supervisor.
The Director of Training and Development and the Chair of the University Training Grant Committee propose a selection committee to review the applications for the grant. This committee consists of four members and includes the Director of Training and Development. Final approval of Selection Committee appointments is made by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources.
Method of Payment
The gift is credited to the employee's department by way of a funds transfer from the Office of Human Resources, Department of Training and Development. The department then credits the program $250 from the University Manager Training Grant fund towards the overall cost of the program.
Administration
The Office of Human Resources, Department of Training and Development, is responsible for coordinating the program and administering the award on an annual basis.
Additional Gifts
Additional gifts for similar purposes may be added to the Gift fund account if they become available.
