HR Facilitator Certificate Track

CONTENTS

Overview

The HR Facilitator Certificate track is for any employee (supervisor, current HR Facilitator, or otherwise) who wants to gain knowledge on appropriate application of University human resource policies. These programs provide the opportunity to learn more about the personnel policies and programs, to practice resolving workplace issues effectively, and to discuss frequent or complex personnel issues and possible solutions with University colleagues. (This series does not include direct systems training, such as HRIS, RecruitmentWeb, EPAWeb.)

Requirements: Five core courses, three electives, and one capstone. Participants who apply for this track must complete all coursework within three years of their application date.

To begin this track, complete the enrollment form located at the bottom of this page. Please begin enrolling in your courses at any time at www.training.unc.edu. Participants enrolled in certificate tracks will be updated about any changes and upcoming classes that may help fulfill their requirements.

Core Courses

Participants in the HR Facilitator certificate track are asked to complete the following five core classes. Supervisory Resources must be taken first, but other core classes can be taken in any order. All courses are offered at least once annually, but may not be offered on every Program Guide.

  • Supervisory Resources
  • Managing Classification & Compensation for SPA Employees
  • SPA Hiring: From Posting to Probation
  • Performance Management of SPA Employees
  • Determining Cause for Disciplinary Action (SPA)

Electives

In addition to the five core courses and capstone course, participants are asked to choose three electives from the Training and Development Program Guide to complete their certificate track. With the electives, participants are able to tailor learning to best meet their particular interests and situations. Courses that will count toward the HR Facilitator certificate track electives include, but are not limited to, the items listed below. If you would like to take a course from the Program Guide other than what is listed below to fulfill the elective requirement in this competency, please contact the HR Facilitator track advisor.

  • Tricky Timesheets
  • Managing Employee Separations
  • Temporary Staffing Strategies
  • Managing Medical Leave Programs
  • Workplace Investigations
  • EPA Human Resource Basics

Capstone

In addition to the five core courses and three electives, participants must complete Advanced Problem Solving for Supervisors. This course must be taken after completing all other requirements for the certificate track.
