Star Heels Award Program

The Star Heels Award Program is made possible by the generous sponsorship of TIAA-CREF. The program provides awards to individual departments in order recognize and reward excellent employees. Under this program, departments are given flexibility to choose award criteria and timing of awards

Eligibility Criteria

Nominators: All University employees (including temporaries) are eligible to submit nominations.

Nominees: All permanent employees. This includes SPA, EPA Non-Faculty, and Faculty. Recipients are selected on a departmental level then submitted to the Employee Services Department for award distribution.

Awards

Award recipients will receive a $25 gift certificate one of the following local or University establishments:

  • UNC Student Stores (including Bull's Head Bookshop)
  • UNC OneCard (for purchases on campus with OneCard)
  • A Southern Season
  • Lowe's Home Improvement

Recipients may choose whichever certificate they would prefer.

Administration

  • The Star Heels Award Program is administered by the Employee Services Department, Office of Human Resources.
  • The number of awards allocated to each department will be based proportionately on the number of employees within each department.
  • Departments will establish their own mechanisms for determining recipients. 
  • Departmental Human Resources Facilitators will submit the names of recipients along with short award justifications via an electronic nomination form to the Employee Services Department. 
  • Employee Services will send certificates.
  • Names of recipients will be published in the University Gazette.
  • Departments must distribute their award allocation no later than May 31 of each fiscal year.
