University Child Care Center

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care Systems opened the University Child Care Center, in August 1998 and contracted Victory Village Day Care Center to manage the facility. The Center is a nationally accredited, five-star licensed non-profit center.

Children enrolled at the University Child Care Center are children of students, faculty and staff of UNC-Chapel Hill and UNC Health Care Systems. The population is a diverse group that reflects the race, ethnic and cultural diversity of the Chapel Hill community.

The center can accommodate 120 children, ranging from infants to five year-olds. The center operates eleven classrooms composed of:

• three infant rooms, each with a 6:2 child to teacher ratio
• three toddler rooms, with 8:2 child to teacher ratios
• two rooms for two to three year-olds, each with a 12:2 child to teacher ratio
• three rooms for three to five year-olds, with a 15:2 child to teacher ratio

The University and the Hospital contract with Victory Village, Inc., an independent, non-profit organization, to operate the center. The University and the Hospital shared costs for the construction of the building. Tuition and fees cover operating costs, including staffing expenses.

Prior to construction of the University Child Care Center, Victory Village, Inc. operated a day care center on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus for 45 years. It housed 64 children and occupied the same site since it opened in 1953. The new Center houses nearly twice the number of children and the staff size has more than doubled.

Program Information:

Ages: 6 weeks to 5 years
Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Calendar: 12 months

Fees:

Infants: $1235 / month
Toddlers: $1235 / month
Twos: $1080 / month
Threes and up: $875 / month

*A limited number of scholarships are available
