Bonus Leave

CONTENTS

Introduction

The General Assembly has provided an additional 40 hours of bonus leave effective September 1, 2005. This bonus leave is available for employees who are on the payroll on September 1.

Eligibility

Full-time and part-time (50% or greater) permanent faculty and EPA non-faculty who earn leave are eligible for the leave. Part-time employees shall receive a pro rata amount of the 40 hours. Temporary employees are not eligible for bonus leave. Eligible employees who terminate prior to September 1, 2005, or whose first workday is after September 1, 2005, will not receive the bonus leave. If an eligible employee is hired, works, and terminates all on September 1, 2005, he or she is eligible for the bonus leave. Eligible employees who are in leave-without-pay status on September 1, 2005, shall be credited with the bonus leave upon their return in an amount based on their type of appointment at the time they entered leave-without-pay status.

Tracking Bonus Leave

This is a one-time allotment of bonus leave. Employees do not "lose it" at the end of the fiscal year, nor do they receive an additional allotment next year. Any balance of bonus leave on December 31 will be retained by the employee and transferred to the next calendar year. It will not be considered as part of the maximum 240 hours (30 days) of vacation leave that can be retained. Bonus leave will not be subject to conversion to sick leave.

Each department is responsible for tracking leave balances for its employees.

Employee Termination and Bonus Leave Balance

If the employee leaves state government or changes to a non-leave earning status, any bonus leave balance for EPA non-faculty may be paid out if not used prior to termination.

There will be no payout of unused bonus leave for Faculty in accordance with existing faculty leave policy.

Employees must exhaust any available bonus leave prior to any use of Voluntary Shared Leave donations. All bonus leave, previous year and this year may be combined but accounted for separately from Vacation leave balances.
