Benefits Orientation & Enrollment

CONTENTS

Online Orientation/Timing of Enrollment in Benefits Programs

New permanent employees should be informed of the Human Resources online orientation program designed to guide the new employee through explanations of programs, services, policies, and benefits offered by UNC-Chapel Hill.  The username is "epa" and the password is "orientation."  Enter both without the quotation marks.  Some forms are fill-in; others must be downloaded and completed on a typewriter or by hand.  Original completed and signed forms are sent to the Benefit Program Administration Office (CB 1045, 104 Airport Drive, UNC-Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-1045).

Enrollment for health insurance must be done within 30 days of the date of employment.

Employees are required to enroll in benefits programs during specified timeframes from the official date of employment.  In guiding the new employee through this orientation, ascertain whether health insurance at their previous employer will still be in effect for the first month of employment at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Enrollment in health insurance benefits does not take effect until 30 days after enrollment.

Benefits for EPA Employees at 50% Effort

Permanent employees hired for 50% or greater are eligible to purchase some benefits.  For more detailed information see the HR website or contact the HR Benefits Office directly 2-3071; benefits@unc.edu).

Benefits for EPA Employees at 75% Effort

An EPA employee hired for 75% effort or more whose service is continuous for one year or more is eligible for fringe benefits.  At the time of employment, the employee will be contacted by the HR Benefits Office to discuss options.  The employee has 30 days from the appointment start date to designate benefit plans.  For more detailed information see the HR website.  It is most important that appointment paperwork be submitted in sufficient time to allow the employee time to review benefit plans.
