In her role as Vice Chancellor for Workforce Strategy, Equity, and Engagement, Felicia is the University’s chief human resources officer. Felicia joined Carolina in 2014; prior to that, she practiced law with Kennedy Covington and K&L Gates LLP in Charlotte for 23 years. As a partner in an international law firm, Felicia worked extensively with senior legal counsel, business executives and human resources professionals, advising them on an array of employment, compliance, discrimination, and business immigration issues. She regularly handled matters involving the FMLA, ADA, and Title VII, including allegations of discrimination and harassment, wrongful termination, layoffs, misconduct, whistle-blowing, wage and hour issues, and other human resources-related issues. Additionally, she drafted personnel and employment policies and agreements, developed the strategy for and conducted investigations and training, and represented clients before regulatory agencies and in federal and state courts. Felicia received her undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and her law degree from the University of Virginia.
Gena is currently serving as Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources. In that interim role, she has day-to-day responsibilities in helping lead the Office of Human Resources (OHR) to ensure the full range of human resources services are delivered in a timely and client-focused manner to the University community. Gena has more than 25 years of human resources experience in both the public and private sector; before joining the University in 2002, she served as ADP’s human resources director. Prior to that position, she spent 11 years in various HR capacities at AT&T. Gena earned a B.S. in Labor and Industrial Relations from UNC-Chapel Hill and an Executive Diploma in Human Resources Management from New York University. She is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
Vicki is the functional HR/Payroll lead for the University’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) initiative, ConnectCarolina. She also oversees the HR Information Management group and the HR Business Office, and leads special projects and programs for the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement. Vicki joined the University in 2004 and has more than 21 years of experience in the human resources field in both the public and private sector. She earned her B.A. in Psychology and her Pennsylvania Certification in Education at Lafayette College and earned both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology at North Carolina State University.
Sr. Director HR Information Management
Rich joined Carolina in 2008; prior to this position, he served as director of HR business analysis in OHR. He has previously worked for various firms in programming and R&D roles. He has more than 20 years of experience in the technology field. Rich obtained his bachelor’s of science in business administration from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School.
Kathy oversees communications to campus from the Office of Human Resources, and directs the Training & Talent Development group as they provide learning opportunities for all employees on campus. She joined the University in 2004 and has more than 20 years of experience in all types of communications, primarily concentrated in human resources communications. Her previous experience includes communications positions at a regional plumbing and heating wholesale company, a civil and transportation engineering firm and a Fortune 250 regional utility. Kathy has a B.A. in English from Wake Forest University and is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators.
Interim Senior Director for Employee & Management Relations
In this interim role, Chris leads the Employee & Management Relations team, which focuses on the management and regulation of relationships between management and employees, including performance and conduct consultations, disciplinary actions, grievances, performance management issues and conflict/dispute resolution. He joined the University’s Office of Human Resources in 1997 and has served in previous roles as the OHR’s communications director, policy director, and employee & management relations manager. Chris has a B.A. in Communications and an M.A. in English from the University of Northern Iowa and an M.A. in Communications from UNC-Chapel Hill.
Noreen leads OHR’s Employment and Staffing team, which is responsible for SPA recruitment and employment services and policy. Noreen has served in various HR capacities since joining the University in 1993. Before coming to UNC, she served as vice president of operations, recruitment manager and corporate recruiter for a privately held personnel service. Noreen earned her B.S. in Business Economics and her B.S. in Textiles from the State University of New York and her M.S. in Human Resource Development from Villanova University. She received her Professional in Human Resources certification through the Human Resource Certification Institute and her credentials as a Certified Compensation Professional and Global Remuneration Professional through World at Work.
Interim Senior Director, Classification and Compensation
In this interim role, Adam oversees the operations of and provides vision and leadership to the Classification and Compensation team providing services to the University community. He is responsible for organizational design and classification services in conjunction with development of University compensation programs to assist leadership in attracting, motivating and retaining key talent. He joined OHR as a senior HR generalist in 2005.
Ashley is responsible for overseeing the administration of all health, dental, life and disability insurance, retirement, work/life, wellness, employee recognition, discount and employee leave programs. Ashley joined the University in December 2006 and has 20 years of experience in the human resource field. Prior to joining UNC, Ashley was the Benefits Manager at UNC General Administration. Ashley is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where she received a B.S. degree in Business Management with a concentration in Human Resources. She is also a Certified Benefits Professional and Certified Compensation Professional through World at Work.
