The State Health Plan of North Carolina (SHPNC) and NCFlex Plans share a single portal for benefit plan changes and annual enrollment. Faculty/Staff should log onto https://connectcarolina.unc.edu/ to enroll, change and manage all of their NCFlex and State Health Plan benefits. Click on SelfService and then enroll or change benefits to access the enrollment portal. You will need your UNC Onyen and password to log into the ConnectCarolina website. For assistance with your Onyen and password, contact 919-962-HELP (4357).
During Annual Enrollment, members can:
• Enroll in the State Health Plan
• Switch between plans
• Add or remove dependents without a qualifying life event
For assistance with NCFlex and SHPNC enrollment, contact the Eligibility and Enrollment Support Center at 1-855-859-0966, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM ET and Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM ET.
RETIREES: If you are receiving retirement benefits from the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) or Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System (TSERS), medical plan changes are made through the State Retirement System’s ORBIT portal. Or, you may call 1-855-859-0966 for assistance over the phone.
PHASED RETIREES: If you are faculty participating in the Phased Retirement Program, NCFlex benefit plan changes are made through ConnectCarolina and medical plan changes are made through the State Retirement System’s ORBIT portal.
All active members and dependents will be moved to the 70/30 Plan.
If you are currently an active participant, when you log into the eEnroll portal through ConnectCarolina you will see that you (and covered dependents) have been enrolled in the 70/30 plan for 2017. If you want coverage under a different plan you MUST take action and enroll in the plan you prefer. If you do nothing during Annual Enrollment, you and your dependents will be enrolled in the Traditional 70/30 Plan for 2017.
NOTE: If you or your dependents do not currently participate in a medical plan, then this does not include you.
If you remain enrolled in the Traditional 70/30 Plan for 2017, you will need to complete a tobacco attestation credit in order to receive employee coverage at no monthly cost to you. Employees who enroll in the Enhanced 80/20 or CDHP (85/15) plan may also take advantage of the tobacco attestation to reduce their monthly cost. The tobacco attestation is one of three wellness credit activities and can be accessed through the ConnectCarolina enrollment portal. The tobacco attestation is different from the smoking question asked in the Health Assessment.
Health assessment data for all active plan participants was re-set on May 1st. Enhanced 80/20 and CDHP (85/15) plan participants should take action to complete a new health assessment through the MyActiveHealth portal in order to receive the premium credit for 2017. Members with questions should call 800-817-7044 for assistance.
NEW EMPLOYEES: New employees may only complete the health assessment by phone, at 800-817-7044.
Primary Care Provider
Enhanced 80/20 and CDHP (85/15) may reduce their monthly premium cost further by designating or confirming their primary care provider. This wellness credit activity is available through the ConnectCarolina enrollment portal.
Dependent Eligibility Verification
Please remember that when adding dependents to a benefit plan, you will be asked to provide documentation to verify dependent eligibility.

Annual enrollment elections will go into effect on January 1, 2017. The NCFlex 2017 enrollment guide is packed full of information and tools to help you make the best benefit plan decisions for you and your family. Most of your 2016 NCFlex benefit plan elections will continue in 2017. Remember, healthcare and dependent daycare flexible spending accounts require re-enrollment each year.

UNC GROUP TERM LIFE (METLIFE)
During annual enrollment, you can increase coverage from 1 to 2 times, or from 2 to 3 times (not to exceed $500,000) your salary without answering health history questions. If you want to increase to 4, 5, 6 or 7 times your salary, you must provide a statement of health. Spousal/Domestic Partner coverage can increase from $10,000 to $20,000 during AE. Coverage is available for you, your spouse or domestic partner, and eligible dependent children. Your 2017 rate is based on your age as of December 31, 2016. Submit your forms to OHR Benefits (email@example.com) no later than October 31st.
