Open Enrollment is the annual opportunity for benefits-eligible UNC-Chapel Hill staff and faculty to make changes to their benefit plans outside of a qualifying life event such as a change in your employment or marital status.

The next Open Enrollment period will take place in October 2024. At that time, check back here for everything you need to know about Open Enrollment—what’s new for the next year’s benefits, how to make your selections in ConnectCarolina and the plan options for health, life and other insurances available to you as a Carolina employee.

If you are a new employee looking to make your benefits selections, visit the Your Benefits at UNC-Chapel Hill page of our new employee website (new.unc.edu) for information on your available benefits plans and how to enroll.

If you are experiencing a qualifying life event like a change in employment or marital status, see the Life Events page of the HR at UNC website for details about plan changes and eligibility.

Need to make changes in ConnectCarolina?

Update your name and address, upload documentation and take care of other benefits-related items with step-by-step instructions.

Open Enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to add, delete or make changes to the benefit plans that best fit the needs for you and your family. This year, the Open Enrollment period runs October 9–27. Please keep in mind that Open Enrollment is the only time you can make changes to your benefits plans unless you experience a qualifying life event such as a change in your employment or marital status. Changes made during open enrollment are effective on January 1 of the next calendar year.

Explore this Open Enrollment website to find out what’s new for next year’s benefits, learn how to make your selections in ConnectCarolina through both enrollment portals and view plan options for health, life and other insurances available to you as a Carolina employee.

Open Enrollment information applies only to UNC-Chapel Hill benefits-eligible permanent employees (permanent full- and part-time SHRA, EHRA Non-Faculty and Faculty working a minimum of 20 hours a week). For more information about benefits eligibility, please visit the Benefits Eligibility webpage. Eligible temporary employees working 30 hours or more per week may be eligible to enroll in the State Health Plan’s High Deductible Health Plan. Eligible temporary employees will be notified by a UNC Benefits email. Visit the Health Insurance page of the HR at UNC website for more information.
