New Postoc Orientation (NPO) for Spring 2013 will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Bioinformatics 1131. Orientation (NPO) is an opportunity for new postdocs to be introduced to the staff of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) and gather information about health insurance, benefits, and other campus services available to them during their appointment at UNC. Attached is a notice concerning the new tax rules for 2013 that have been implemented beginning with Biweekly Payroll 14 (BW14) checks to be paid on Jan. 11 and for the Monthly Payroll (MO07) checks to be paid on Jan. 31.
Save–the–Date: Postdoc Orientation
The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will sponsor an orientation all UNC Postdoctoral Scholars on Wed., Sept. 5 in MBRB (Medical Biomolecular Research Building).
New and current postdocs are welcome to attend this program. Topics to be covered include an overview of the postdoc experience at UNC, career services and programs, postdoc health insurance, volunteer opportunities within the UNC Postdoc Association, and much more. There will be a fair at the start with free lunch and various departments on campus that offer services to postdocs. The guest speaker for the fall orientation will be Wayne Blair from University Ombuds. He will be speaking on "Managing Communication and Conflict."
GSHIP Open for 2012-2013 Enrollment
The Graduate Student Health Insurance Program (GSHIP) has been updated and is open effective July 23, for 2012-2013 enrollment. Please refer to the GSHIP policy and procedures (Policy 1112) located in the Finance Division Policies and Procedures Manual, as well as the July 18th, memo located in the Finance News Archives, and the training manual available on the Finance Training website under the Insurance section for more information.
Required COI Training for Researchers Now Available On-line
I am pleased to announce that the on-line conflict of interest (COI) training is now available at the website: https://apps.research.unc.edu/coi-training/. As part of the preparation for achieving compliance with the new federal regulations effective August 24th, we are making this training available now. A formal notice email is being distributed to the campus within the next day.
Upon consultation with the Provost and the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Chancellor has determined the COI training should be completed by all individuals who are involved in research. Individuals can include faculty, staff, students or trainees. Generally, completion of this training will be valid for four years and will be reflected, no later than August 24th, in the RAMSeS and IRBIS systems.
