SPA HRIS (Inpower) System

CONTENTS

General Information

The Inpower Human Resources Information System (HRIS) is a web-based application that is used to process personnel actions for employees of the University who are subject to the provisions of the State Personnel Act (SPA).

Access Set-Up for Individuals and Departments

Initial access to HRIS, as well as access changes or removal, are coordinated by the HR Applications Support Help Desk.

For initial access to HRIS, new users (or their department HR Facilitator) must complete the Request for System Access form (also known as the HR-150).

New HRIS users should also be added to the department's roles and approvals listing. A revised copy of the Department Roles/Approvals/Email Notification form should be submitted to HR Applications Support whenever a new user is added.

If you have questions or need assistance in completing any of these forms, please contact the HR Applications Support Help Desk at 962-HELP (indicate you need assistance with HRIS) or submit an on-line help request at https://www.unc.edu/ar-bin/websub/index.pl.

Accessing HRIS

HRIS must be installed on your computer following approval of the Request for System Access. Contact the HR Applications Support Help Desk for additional information.

HRIS does not use the Onyen. Instead, users are assigned a FACS ID username (begins with the letters pa) and a temporary password. Passwords can be reset in HRIS. (See the User Guide (http://hrisguide.unc.edu/support-docs/HRIS-Passwords_and_password_resets.htm) for additional information on setting and resetting passwords.) Please note: HRIS does not use the FACS ID password; the HRIS password is unique.

HRIS passwords expire every 90 days.

HRIS Training

HRIS classroom training is required for all users who will be originating actions in the system. The most current schedule of training classes is available on the OHR web site at http://hr.unc.edu/departments/hris/schedules/hris-training.

The HRIS training program has two parts. The first class consists of three half days: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, 8:30 am - 12:30 pm each day. For Part II, the class is a one-day class, held quarterly on scheduled Wednesdays from 8:30 am - 12:30 pm.

HRIS classes are listed in the on-line training catalog under the category of "University Operations". You may also use the catalog's alphabetical listing.

For additional questions regarding HRIS training, contact Theresa Silsby, acting director of HR Applications Support, at 962-8096.

User Help and Technical Support

A comprehensive on-line User's Guide is available for HRIS by pointing your web browser to http://hrisguide.unc.edu.

A list of Frequently Asked Questions about HRIS issues is available here.

If you cannot obtain the information you need from the User Guide or experience a technical problem which interferes with your use of HRIS, you may request technical support assistance by one of two ways:

  • Contact the ITS Response Center at 962-HELP and indicate you need assistance with HRIS. Your request will be recorded and routed to the HR Applications Support Help Desk.
  • Submit an on-line Help Request at https://www.unc.edu/ar-bin/websub/index.pl.

HRIS User Meetings are held on an as-needed basis. For an archive of notes from past meetings, click here.
