Health Care Flexible Spending Account
The Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HCFSA) is a pre-tax benefit for reimbursing employees for out-of-pocket medical expenses. This program is designed to supplement other medical coverage by providing reimbursement for services not covered (or partially covered) by a comprehensive plan. The reimbursement amount is based solely on the employee's contributions to the spending account.
Dental Insurance
The University offers employees a choice of dental plans (Assurant Dental or United Concordia). Both plans cover preventive, basic and major services, but they differ in how they pay for covered services. Under each plan, participants can visit any dental provider.
Vision Insurance
While the Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans provide coverage for annual eye exams, the University is pleased to offer a nationwide vision care plan to manage the cost of eyeglasses and contact lenses, as well as eye examinations.
Cancer Insurance
The Cancer Insurance plan provides benefits to pay for expenses related to cancer and 29 other specified diseases, including muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, tuberculosis, sickle cell anemia and cystic fibrosis. Covered benefits may include reimbursement for lodging, transportation, home recovery/hospice and transplant costs.
Workers' Compensation
The Workers' Compensation program provides benefits to any employee who suffers disability through accident or occupational disease arising out of, and in the course of, his or her employment, according to the provisions of the North Carolina Workers' Compensation Act. This act applies to all University employees, whether full-time, part-time or temporary.
Ergonomics
Ergonomics is a service the University provides to all employees. The goal of Ergonomics is to design the workplace to accommodate the worker, in order to prevent and/or alleviate possible discomfort experienced at work.
University Employee Occupational Health Clinic
The University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC) provides occupational health care services to all part-time, full-time and temporary employees of the University. The UEOHC is located on the first floor of the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC). The UEOHC directs medical care for all workplace injuries/illnesses. The UEOHC also provides pre-employment screening, annual immunization reviews, and medical surveillance for healthcare and non-healthcare workers.
