Overview of EPA Positions

All EPA positions are exempt from both the State Personnel Act of North Carolina and the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act.  The two major groups of EPA employees are EPA Faculty and EPA Non-Faculty.

EPA Faculty Positions may be tenure-track or fixed-term positions.

EPA-Non Faculty Positions may be time-limited or at-will appointments.  There are three major types of EPA Non-Faculty Positions:

• Instructional

• Research

• Senior Academic and Administrative Officers (SAAO)

Tier 1 SAAO positions include the Chancellor; the Provost; Vice Chancellors; Vice Provosts; Deans; and the Directors of the major administrative, educational, research and public services activities at the University whose salaries are set by the Board of Governors of the State of North Carolina University System

Tier 2 SAAO positions include Associate and Assistant Vice Chancellors; Associate and Assistant Deans; and other administrative positions within the University that have been approved by the Board of Governors as Senior Academic and Administrative Officers.
