Subject: Carolina Recognized on "Great Colleges to Work For" Listing

The Chronicle for Higher Education has ranked UNC-Chapel Hill in four categories on its second annual "Great Colleges to Work For" listing.
Carolina was ranked as one of the top large universities for teaching environment, facilities and security, connection to institution and pride, and respect and appreciation. Institutions were recognized in a total of 26 categories.
"We are pleased and proud that Carolina has been recognized as a great place to work by The Chronicle," said Brenda Richardson Malone, associate vice chancellor for Human Resources. "In many ways, this simply confirms what we already knew -- that Carolina faculty and staff have a special connection to this great institution.
"However, this process also gives us additional insight into areas where we can improve going forward," Malone added.
The Chronicle's Great Colleges to Work For program recognizes small groups of colleges (based on enrollment size) for specific best practices and policies, such as compensation and benefits, faculty/administration relations, and confidence in senior leadership. Almost 250 institutions participated in this year's rankings; in total, 150 colleges and universities were recognized. To determine the rankings, a consulting firm administered a survey to 600 randomly selected faculty and staff at the University, and collected data on a variety of programs and benefits.
