Having some scheduled times away from work is important! See below for when the University is closed for holidays and for details about the University’s Alternate Holidays policy.

Please note: Nine- and twelve-month faculty generally observe the same holidays as other University employees. However, when classes are scheduled during a normal University holiday, faculty with assigned teaching duties are expected to work. Certain clinical departments of the School of Medicine may have a modified holiday schedule for their employees and will communicate any such details directly to their employees.

Alternate Holidays Policy

The University recognizes that not all employees share the same beliefs or celebrate the same holidays. As such, an employee can request to exchange the paid Spring Holiday (Good Friday) or Winter Holidays (Christmas) for another religious holiday within the employee’s religious faith, provided that meaningful work can be accomplished by the employee on the University’s regularly scheduled holiday.

The unscheduled religious holiday and the University’s scheduled holiday must occur in the same calendar year. Alternatively, employees may also use available vacation, bonus, or other available paid time off to take leave on the unscheduled religious holiday. For more details, view the Alternate Holidays section of the Holiday & Holiday Pay Policy.
