As a UNC-Chapel Hill employee, you have a variety of resources available to help you meet your nutrition, weight loss and health goals in 2020.

Nutrition & Weight Loss Resources

Weight Watchers at Work (WW)

Weight Watchers (WW) continues to be one of the best weight-loss diets and commercial diet plans. Sessions include WW’s popular Freestyle program with over 200 delicious zero-point foods and point rollover, plus the new myWW program.

New 2020 features:

  • Personal assessment to know your preferences and lifestyle
  • Weight-loss program that’s tailored for you
  • 24/7 support with the updated app
  • SmartPoints for 94,000 restaurant foods and WW recipes

On average, UNC WW sessions resulted in participants losing 10 lbs. in 12-weeks.

Classes are held every Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at the UNC School of Nursing.

UNC Weight Management Program (WMP)

UNC Weight Management Program (WMP) is located within UNC Family Medicine Center. WMP offers individual and/or group counseling to eligible participants to develop personalized and sustainable weight loss plans. Program length is one year and includes nutrition and physical activity counseling, stress management tools, referrals to specialists such as dieticians or bariatric surgeons as needed, and an optional support group after graduation.

Program cost includes a one-time primary care copay for first visit and then a one-time $125 enrollment fee for the year-long program.

Dietitian Visits: Meet with an expert at no cost to you!

For more a personalized nutrition plan, State Health Plan members ages 6 and older can enjoy nutrition and weight management benefits.

80/20 & 70/30 Plan Members:  In-network dietitian visits delivered in an office, urgent care or outpatient facility are covered 100%. Services include the following:

  • Nutritional Counseling
  • Obesity Screening
  • Behavioral Intervention

This is a new preventative health benefit for 70/30 Plan members!

Fitness Resources

Free Personal Training with UNC Campus Recreation

UNC Campus Recreation is looking for interested UNC Employees to participate in the “Mock Client” Personal Training Program. This program is designed to give students who are currently training to become Certified Personal Trainers the experience of working with a client. Additional program features and participation criteria are below.

  • Program includes three (3) free training sessions plus one initial consultation with a trainer
  • Mock Clients must be available for training during normal business hours (8am – 6pm) Monday through Friday.
  • All training will occur at either the UNC Student Recreation Center or Rams Head Recreation Center.
  • All Mock Clients should be in good health, with no major medical concerns that could affect their ability to train

This program is on a first come, first serve basis. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this Mock Client Interest Form.

Free Yoga Wednesdays

Employees can enjoy a free mindful yoga class every Wednesday, starting Jan. 8 from 12:15-1:00 p.m. at the Ram’s Head Recreation Center located at 340 Ridge Road, Chapel Hill.

Mindful yoga uses a slower, deeper approach to the yoga poses and moving with the breath that builds focus, inner awareness and presence. The practice increases flexibility, strength and ease of movement in a calming atmosphere.

No membership required, just bring your UNC One Card!

Employee Lunchtime Class Pass

Employees can now enjoy a mid-day workout at an even lower cost.  For only $30 a semester (Spring 2020: January 8 – May 5), employees can attend an unlimited number of group fitness classes held at 12:15 or 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at the Student Recreation Center and Rams Head Recreation Center. Classes include Yoga, Barre, Step, Zumba, Lift and Pilates.
