Dear faculty and staff,
On Friday, March 18, we invite you to take some time to focus on total wellbeing—from your head to your heart to your heels! We’re excited to host Employee Wellness Day, our first combined wellness and employee appreciation event—and our first in-person gathering since 2019. We encourage supervisors and managers to provide employees with the flexibility to attend the event and to declare the entire day of March 18 a no-meeting day, to the extent possible.
Please join us from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Carolina Union where you can pick up a free healthy lunch and enjoy activities like:
- Fitness sessions for Zumba, circuit-training, step cardio, Pilates and chair yoga.
- Cooking demos—with samples!
- Rock climbing wall.
- Chair massage therapy.
- Inflatables for soccer, basketball, axe throwing and more!
You can also take advantage of a variety of wellness resources, including:
- Wellness vendor fair of available local resources on nutrition, financial management, mindfulness, physical fitness and work/life balance.
- Medicine Drop to safely dispose of unused medications.
- 10-minute tours of the Recreation Center to see what the SRC has to offer employees.
Some things are starting early! Be sure to check the full calendar of activities. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., you can schedule a wellness check to find out your cholesterol, blood pressure and other important numbers, and from 7 – 9 a.m., facilities and housekeeping staff just beginning or finishing their shift can start (or end!) their day by swinging by Lenoir Hall for a breakfast burrito and healthy sides.
For more information and to secure your spot for certain activities, visit the Employee Wellness Day webpage. Participation is free, and attendance is considered work time for staff, who should seek advance approval from their supervisors to attend. Free parking is available in the Cobb Deck on Paul Green Drive.
Additional Employee Wellness Week resources
On the weekdays leading up the in-person event, you’ll be able to participate in online virtual sessions on topics like balanced exercise, gentle yoga and functional movement. Our Wellness On-Demand Library will also feature new videos on community support, financial wellness, nutrition and more.
Another resource available to you during Employee Wellness Week is a free breast cancer screening. Special hours are offered Saturday, March 12, 8–11:30 a.m. and Wednesday, March 16, 4–7 p.m. Appointments are required. Visit the Employee Wellness Day webpage to view eligibility requirements and schedule an appointment.
Interested in volunteering?
We’d love for you to help us with Employee Wellness Day! Please sign up to volunteer to staff tables, assist with set-up or distribute employee giveaways. Thanks in advance for volunteering—we could not do this without your help, Tar Heels!
We’re so looking forward to gathering in person for the first time in a long time! Even if your work arrangement is such that you are not typically on site on Fridays, we hope you’ll be able to structure your schedule so that you can join us for a day dedicated to the mental, physical and social wellbeing of Carolina employees.
We can’t wait to kick up our heels with you!
Hark the sound,
Vice Chancellor, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance
