Subject: Temporary Extension for Required 31-Day Break in Service
During the state of emergency, the Office of State Human Resources authorized a temporary extension to the required 31-day break in service for regular temporary employees if the temporary employee’s continued employment is required due to a state of emergency for COVID-19.
Current work and leave provisions for the State are effective through June 30. The Office of State Human Resources has not made a determination to pre-empt those provisions prior to this date. Once the state of emergency ends, employees who have been extended must take the 31-day break in service.
Schools/divisions should begin anticipating that the temporary extension to the required 31-day break in service may not extend beyond June 30. Further, they should begin planning the timing and staggering of temporary appointment end dates for all temporary employees who have worked continuously for more than 12 months to allow for continuing operational coverage.
