This spring, 13 teams from UNC-Chapel Hill competed against 397 other teams across the state in the eight-week Miles for Wellness step and activity challenge, “Trail of Many Rails.”
Over this railroad themed challenge course, teams tracked their activity and virtually raced from North Carolina to California to New York, visiting different railroad sites along the way.
At the end of the challenge, participants walked a total of 2,091,324,721 steps. That’s equivalent to 1,045,663 miles or 42 times around the earth! UNC teams contributed 49,015,147 steps (24,508 miles) to the challenge. Participating schools and divisions included the School of Medicine, Kenan-Flagler Business School, College of Arts & Sciences, School of Social Work, Student Affairs, and Workforce Strategy, Equity & Engagement.
Congratulations to the School of Medicine Allied Health Sciences’ “Dani’s Team” for walking the most steps among all UNC teams (6,044,658 steps) and kudos to the Workforce Strategy, Equity and Engagement team, “UNC Ramblers,” who placed second out of 90 teams who competed in the Tortoise Division.
The Office of State Human Resources will award the Ramblers with the second place, traveling trophy on July 9. The trophy will be displayed proudly in the Office of Human Resources on Airport Drive until the end of the fall challenge.
Help keep a trophy at UNC! Save the date for the next Miles for Wellness Challenge: Sept. 23, 2019.Learn more
