This fall, the 22nd Miles for Wellness physical activity challenge, “Walking the Lakeside Trails,” attracted the most UNC-Chapel Hill participation to date. The University had 38 teams successfully complete the challenge, which ran from Sept. 21—Nov. 15.

Over the eight-week challenge, teams of 10 competed against 278 other teams across the state to virtually visit lakes throughout the U.S., from North Carolina to Oregon and back, based on their tracked activity.

At the end of the challenge, UNC teams contributed 117,240,888 steps (88,620 miles) to the overall challenge, which collectively traveled 1,517,426,197 steps (758,893 miles). That’s equivalent to 3.5 times around the earth for UNC teams!

Thank you to all those who participated and continued to make physical activity a priority throughout the fall semester.  The next Miles for Wellness Challenge will begin in April 2021. Registration information forthcoming.

Special congratulations to team “Safety Squad” led by Ashley Hester for walking the most steps among all UNC teams (10,483,205 steps) and the two winning UNC teams below.
