Congratulations to our 2022 Nominees

The Governor’s Awards for Excellence, established in 1982, is the absolute highest honor a state employee is eligible to receive, and to be nominated for the award is a tremendous achievement. In 2022, two Carolina employees were nominated. We thank you for your effort and dedication to the Carolina community and to the State of North Carolina.

Tammy J. Samuels, Kenan-Flagler Career & Leadership for MBA Programs & Alumni | Human Relations
Nominated for her work in building stability and increasing employee morale during a time of high turnover, Tammy has fostered partnerships within the school, University system, community and corporate relationships. Through kind, empathic and transparent leadership, Tammy creates a work environment where people feel valued. Since starting her role at Kenan-Flagler in 2019, she has achieved two-year pay equity increases for underpaid staff.

Evelyn C. Cook, School of Medicine NC Statewide Program for Infection Control and Epidemiology (NC SPICE) | Outstanding Government Service
Nominated for her dedication and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic, Evelyn is being recognized for her response to infection control and prevention in over 1,000 long-term care facilities, including on-site and virtual assessments. She led the development of more than 60 distinct training and education activities for more than 6,000 health care workers in outpatient facilities, acute care facilities, dialysis centers, home health and hospice care, and adult care homes.

Thank you for nominating your fellow Tar Heels and supporting this wonderful program. Award winners will be announced in the fall.
