Dear UNC-Chapel Hill Human Resources Community,

As a state institution, UNC-Chapel Hill is responsible for ensuring that all required workplace postings are up-to-date and available to all employees. The United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has released an updated Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal poster, outlining information on federal laws prohibiting job discrimination. The poster shares information about discrimination based on:

  • Race
  • Color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Age (40 and older)
  • Disability
  • Sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity)
  • Genetic information (including family medical history or genetic tests or services)
  • Retaliation for filing a charge, reasonably opposing discrimination, or participating in a discrimination lawsuit, investigation, or proceeding.

Reporting options for employees who have discrimination concerns are also provided. Please download, print, and display the updated posters in English and Spanish in a location that can be viewed by all in your unit no later than Wednesday, November 30, 2022. Federal law requires workplace posters to be displayed in noticeable locations where they are easily visible to all employees.

The EEOC allows electronic posting to supplement, but not replace, physical posting. For full-time telework employees who do not visit the workplace on a regular basis, it may be the only available posting. Updated information on federal workplace discrimination laws can be found on the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office website.

If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,
C. Elizabeth Hall (she/her)
Associate Vice Chancellor of Equal Opportunity and Compliance
Title IX Coordinator
