As previously communicated, the Office of State Human Resources authorized a temporary exception to the required 31-day break in service for regular temporary employees, if the temporary employee’s continued employment was required due to a state of emergency for COVID-19.
We were recently notified that this temporary exception has been extended. We may conditionally extend temporary appointments that meet the above requirements through January 31, 2022, contingent on the continuation of the existing public health emergency.
Please note that once the public health emergency ends, affected employees must take the 31-day break in service within 30 calendar days.
We strongly encourage departments to anticipate lulls in workload, projects, holiday periods, etc. during which the employee can take their 31-day break to avoid taking the break during a less favorable period of time.
