Today is State Employee Appreciation Day, a time set aside to honor state employees for their valued public service. As such, it is a fitting time for me to thank you for being part of the Carolina community.
You do incredible work for this University: You rise to new challenges, you build and encourage community, and you do the extra work to support our students and one another. Your commitment to excellence, creative problem-solving and continued collaboration through a shifting work landscape make me especially proud to be a Tar Heel.
It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Carolina’s 2,202 employees who are celebrating a service milestone this year with UNC-Chapel Hill and/or the State of North Carolina.
To honor their achievement, we have created a 2022 State Service Recognition webpage that highlights the faculty and staff who have reached these benchmark years of service—from 5, 10 and 15 years all the way through 50, 55 and 60 years of dedicated service! I hope you will visit the site, find friends and colleagues, and join me in recognizing these colleagues for their dedication.
Please note that while the State of North Carolina recognizes May 4 as State Employee Appreciation Day, Carolina plans to hold its own annual Employee Appreciation Day event for UNC-Chapel Hill employees on Friday, Oct. 14.
Thank you again for all you do in support of Carolina — on this day and every other. I am grateful to be part of such an exceptional community of Tar Heels!
Hark the sound,
Vice Chancellor, Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance
