Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we prepare to welcome more students back next week for the new academic year, we also want to welcome those faculty and staff who are returning to campus, either now, or in the coming weeks and months. We’re glad to have you back on campus and look forward to a new—if very different—year.

You’ve read a great deal about the preparations being made to have students, faculty and staff back on campus, and most certainly have been tracking updates on the Carolina Together site. I also want to share the new Return to Carolina Guide, which outlines some details about what is expected of you as you return. This guide is intended to answer some of the questions we’re hearing the most from faculty and staff, and to point you in the right direction should you have questions.

Embedded in this guide are the University’s community standards, which are in place to protect the safety of you and the entire Carolina community. These standards are an expectation of your employment at the University as well.

As a reminder, if you have need for an accommodation due to personal health concerns, we encourage you to visit the Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office accommodations site at eoc.unc.edu/covid-19accommodations. Likewise, if you require flexibility with your work schedule or arrangements due to things such as child or eldercare issues, or transportation concerns, we ask that you work with your supervisor or department chair.

Mostly, we look forward to inviting you back to campus. Don’t forget your mask!

Sincerely,

Becci Menghini
Vice Chancellor
Human Resources and Equal Opportunity and Compliance Office
