Faculty Posting Requirements

All faculty postings require a position to be created or updated in ConnectCarolina. To start the recruitment, the position information feeds from ConnectCarolina to PeopleAdmin. Make any needed changes in ConnectCarolina, and review the position before submitting. For more information, see the Faculty Appointments page of the Office of Faculty Affairs website.

 

 

Helpful Tips

  • For Open Rank positions: Once the positions are filled, update the position in ConnectCarolina to to reflect the rank hired.
  • For multiple hires: New positions must be created for each hire, copying from the original position number so the information reflects the recruitment.
  • The department selects the Action Reason of Position Data Update (UPD) for updating in ConnectCarolina.
  • Depending on the type of recruitment, certain fields may be “read-only.”

 

Tenured/Tenure-Track

Postings for permanent tenured/tenure-track positions include:

  • Assistant Professor
  • Associate Professor
  • Professor
Postings for tenured/tenure-track positions must be:

  • Full-time (1.00 FTE); exceptions must be approved prior to posting
  • Posted for a minimum of 30 days
  • Advertised nationally and regionally

Note:

  • If the application deadline is included in the requisition, the requested posting period should be equal to the application deadline.
  • Posting periods greater than 365 days will not be approved.

 

Fixed Term

Submit the new or update position request in ConnectCarolina using the Position ePAR. Complete all required fields; most fields will be editable in PeopleAdmin.

Postings for permanent fixed term positions include:

  • Teaching designation
  • Clinical designation
  • Research designation
  • Professor of the Practice
Postings for fixed term positions:

  • Can be full time (1.00 FTE) appointments or part-time 0.51 to 0.99 FTE. (Appointments under 0.50 FTE are typically designated as part-time/temporary)
  • Must be posted for a minimum of 14 days.
  • Must be advertised nationally and regionally

Note:

  • If the application deadline is included in the requisition, the requested posting period should be equal to the application deadline.
  • Posting periods greater than 365 days will not be approved.

 

Temporary/Part-Time

Postings for temporary/part-time positions include:

  • Adjunct
  • Visiting
  • Contingent Worker
  • Must be posted for a minimum of 3 business days
  • If intent to pay at any time during the appointment: Position must be posted
  • If no intent to pay: No posting is required and must be hired as a contingent worker
  • If pay and FTE will fluctuate depending on workload: Use employee group Faculty Intermittent in the ePAR

If hiring a permanent employee with another state agency to be paid via Dual Employment:

  • Hire as Faculty Intermittent in the ePAR
  • Add Vacancy ID
  • In comment section note that the faculty member will be paid through Dual Employment
