To recognize State Employee Recognition Week and Employee Appreciation Day 2024, the Office of Human Resources is hosting a T-shirt design contest for UNC staff and faculty. The selected design will be used for the volunteer T-shirts at Employee Appreciation Day, Friday, Oct. 18.


Eligibility

  • Contest open to all current UNC-Chapel Hill full-time permanent staff and faculty for individual design submission.
  • Members of UNC departments and/or teams can submit a design as a group.
  • UNC Health employees are not eligible.

General Guidelines

  • Contest runs through 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 12.
  • Design MUST reflect what it means to be a Carolina employee OR the spirit of employee appreciation.
  • Carolina staff and faculty will have opportunity to vote for their favorite design.

Design & Submission Rules

  • Designs must be original creations and must follow design guidelines.
  • Design MUST reflect what it means to be a Carolina employee OR the spirit of employee appreciation.
  • Print area for the shirt is 10 inches x 10 inches; designs should be no larger than 10 inches x 10 inches and no smaller than 5 inches x 5 inches.
  • No color images. Black-and-white designs and/or line art works best.
  • No profanity on designs.
  • No trademarks on designs — be original!
  • Designs must be submitted as a pdf file format.
  • Hand-drawn designs must be scanned to a pdf file format.
  • Recommended design software: Adobe (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
  • Design must be visible from a distance.
  • You must email your T-shirt design submission as a pdf file attachment to appreciationday@unc.edu. Within your email, include:
    • Your name.
    • Your division or department.
    • Your phone number.
  • Designs must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 12.
  • One design submission per person; one design submission per UNC department/team. A person can submit both an individual design and be part of one group design submission.

Finalists & Winning

  • Three (3) finalists will be selected and featured in the Office of Human Resources August WorkWell newsletter.
  • Finalists will be selected according to the following criteria:
    • Concept and originality of design.
    • Adherence to design guidelines and submission rules.
    • Successfully reflecting what it means to be a Carolina employee OR the spirit of employee appreciation.
  • Carolina staff and faculty will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite design through 5 p.m. Friday, August 16.
  • The finalist design to receive the most votes wins the contest.
  • Limit one (1) contest winner.
  • Winning contestant will be notified by the Office of Human Resources.
  • Winning contestant/team and design will be officially announced in the Office of Human Resources October WorkWell newsletter.
  • Winning contestant/team members will receive a free T-shirt.

Contest Notes

  • Submissions that do not meet the contest requirements will be disqualified.
  • The Office of Human Resources at UNC-Chapel Hill reserves the right to change the terms and conditions without prior notice.
  • By entering this contest, participants agree to:
    • Have their design featured by the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Human Resources in contest-related communications, web content, and/or social media posts, etc.
    • Have their name/s published by the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Human Resources in contest-related communications, web content, and/or social media posts, etc., in the case of a finalist and/or winning submission.
    • In the case of a winning design:
      • Be contacted by the UNC-Chapel Hill Office of Human Resources, if needed, for consultation about design details, etc., as part of the OHR T-shirt design process incorporating the winning the design.
      • Have name printed on the T-shirt.
