Planning for your retirement is a career-long endeavor with important personal, health and financial implications. The University offers its faculty members the option of retiring some way or “phasing” into retirement, with or without emeritus status. These webpages and the Faculty Retirement Planning Guide linked below provide you with information on the UNC retirement program options, steps for transitioning from active employment into retirement and University perks available post-retirement.

If you have specific questions or would like to set up an appointment to discuss retirement with a University Benefits Consultant, contact the Benefits & Leave Support Center by calling 919-962-3071 or emailing benefits@unc.edu. You may find it especially helpful to meet with a Benefits Consultant three or four months in advance of your retirement.
