Radon is a gas that cannot be seen, smelled or tasted. It comes from the decay of radioactive materials in soil or groundwater. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer after smoking and is the likely cause of 21,000 cancer deaths yearly in the U.S.
Nearly one out of every 15 homes in the U.S. are likely to have a high level of radon. Homes in all 100 counties in N.C. have tested for high levels of radon. The only way to know if your home has a radon problem is to test it. Find out how you can receive a free radon test kit for your home.
